Welcome!
Detailed info and photos of 68 airfields in Latvia!
NEW: MATĪŠI airfield with information and photos added to the database!
There are as well airfields which can not be used anymore due to dismantled surface, conversion to agricultural facilities, etc. But still it's interesting to note their existance. We have put all these airfields in the new Historic / Unusable airfields section.
Latest updates on airfield condition:
AUGSTKALNE (06/24) /23.10.2011: RWY surface is average-good, occasionally growing grass, small stones and sand, but generally clean and even. Two big stones on both sides of the RWY ~30m from THR RWY06. Apron occasionaly contaminated with growing grass. The small tree at the NE corner on the RWY has been removed. Can be used for takeoffs and landings.
PRIEKULE (12/30) /23.10.2011: Runway is very clean with some asphalt pitting near threshold RWY12 at the centerline. Generally good condition. Can be used for takeoffs and landings.
VAIŅODE (08/26) /10.10.2011: Runway has tires on both ends of the runway as well as sideways on the middle portion of the runway. Runway asphalt surface is good. Cars may be on the runway.
OKTE (17/35) /25.09.2011: Airfield has recently been cleaned from trees and bushes, however the big tree on R/H side of THR RWY 17 remains. Also a haystack has been put on RWY at threshold 35. Usage therefore is not recommended.
DEGUMNIEKI (03/21) /05.08.2011: RWY surface is good; occasional contamination with small stones and sand but generally clean. Taxiways and apron unserviceable due to bushes and dirt. Airfield can be used for takeoffs and landings.
VECBEBRI (09/27) /31.07.2011: RWY surface is very good. Small stones approx. in the middle of the RWY N off RWY centerline. A bush at the end of the RWY, before THR RWY09 (SW corner). Can be used for takeoffs and landings.
PENKULE (09/27) /23.07.2011: RWY surface is good: relatively clean and even, on some places growing grass. Minor asphalt pitting ~100m from THR RWY09. Tires on the RH side of RWY at THR RWY09. Can be used for takeoffs and landings after making sure tires are not on the RWY.
ZALENIEKI (04/22) /22.07.2011: RWY surface is average, occasionally growing grass, small stones and sand, but generally clean and even. At some places minor damage on asphalt surface, but no holes. Taxiway and apron contaminated with sand and small stones. A bush at NE corner on the RWY, affecting takeoff from 04 / landing on 22. Can be used for emergency, but with caution and considering the obstacles.
Aerodrome charts
To provide better insight about aerodrome suitability for your aircraft and skills I am planning to include various charts. First importance and starting point is Aerodrome Obstacle Chart. This is the one which shows obstacles, terrain and elevation on aerodrome takeoff and landing profiles. Although I am trying to bring them as close to reality as possible, please bear in mind that reality might be different and new obstacle might have appeared! Next in the row are Aerodrome and Visual Approach Charts.

Welcome
Welcome to airfields.posterous.com - an unofficial and non-commercial site about Latvian airfields.
This site is intended to provide information and photos of airfields in Latvia. There are around 75 airfields in Latvia, however only around 10 of them are certified aerodromes. Information about them is provided by official aeronautical information publication: AIP Latvia.
The rest are non-certified aerodromes, although many of them are in a state, which is suitable for general aviation operations. Main focus of this site is to provide information on these airfields.
A list of all airfields in Latvia is found HERE.
